TextNow: Call + Text Unlimited

Calls and messages in one app

TextNow: Call + Text Unlimited gives users a phone number for calling and texting through an internet-connected device. It is aimed at people who want a separate line, a lower-cost way to keep in touch, or a communication option for a shared family phone. The app is listed in the Communication category and is made by TextNow, Inc.

What it is useful for

TextNow can serve as a main communication app or as an extra number for personal, work, or temporary use. Its ad-supported model helps keep basic calling and texting available without relying on a conventional monthly mobile plan. Users may also use the service across more than one device, which can be useful when moving between a phone, tablet, or computer.

Things to consider before choosing it

• Calling and messaging depend on an available internet or mobile connection.
• Advertising is part of the service experience.
• Some data-related options and broader mobile access may depend on the plan or service arrangement available to the user.
• A separate app-based number may not suit someone who needs all communication tied to their regular mobile carrier number.

Usage snapshot

The app has a 4.56 out of 5 rating from about 1.58 million reviews, giving the score a substantial base of user feedback. It has also reached 100,000,000+ installs. Those figures suggest that TextNow is widely used, while the large review count gives more context than a rating from only a small group of users.
